The Christian Faith What we believe, as Christians, is not a matter of mere opinion or a religious preference. It is
absolute truth, revealed by God, proven by the evidence of history, and confirmed by the Holy Spirit in our hearts. Here is a brief summary of those essential truths which we believe in. This statement was produced by the Baptist Convention of Ontario and Quebec in 1925:
- The Divine Inspiration of the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments and their absolute supremacy and sufficiency in matters of faith and practice;
- The existence of one living and true God sustaining the personal relations of Father, Son and Holy Spirit, the same in essence and equal in attributes;
- The total and universal depravity of mankind;
- The election and effectual calling of all God's people;
- The atoning efficacy of the death of Christ;
- The free justification of all believers in Him by His imputed righteousness;
- The preservation unto eternal life of the Saints;
- The necessity and efficacy of the Spirit in regeneration and sanctification;
- The resurrection of the dead both just and unjust;
- The general judgment;
- The everlasting happiness of the righteous and the everlasting misery of the wicked;
- Immersion in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, the only gospel baptism;
- That parties so baptised are alone entitled to communion at the Lord's Table;
- And that a Gospel Church is a Body of baptised believers voluntarily associated together for the service of God.
